Parasitic Encroachment: Gentrification’s Annexation of Artist-Run Spaces
Site-Specific Installation Berlin, Germany 2023

The symbiotic relationship between artists and their creative spaces provides a nurturing environment for innovation, experimentation, and cultural discourse. These artist studios, which serve as crucibles for creative expression, experimentation, and cultural subversion, are not merely commodities to be bought, sold, or replaced at will. They embody artists' collective aspirations, dreams, and struggles, fostering a sense of belonging and catalyzing conversations which push society forward. This site-specific installation at Atelierhaus Mengerzeile M3 Gallery responded to the insidious expansion of gentrification in Berlin and the impact on artist-run spaces. Underscoring the loss of community, displacement of creative voices, and the disintegration of cultural identities.
